The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) due to the Ebola outbreak recorded in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda. The spread of the disease is driven by a rare variant of the Ebola virus—the Bundibugyo strain. Currently, there is neither a specific vaccine nor a targeted treatment available for this strain.
The Ebola virus is transmitted through close contact with infected humans or animals, specifically via their bodily fluids.
Consequently, maintaining personal hygiene, exercising caution while traveling, and seeking timely medical assistance are of paramount importance. Before traveling, it is highly advisable to review the current epidemiological situation in the destination country.
Upon returning from abroad, individuals must monitor their health closely. If any symptoms develop, seek immediate medical attention and be sure to inform the healthcare provider of your recent travel history. Do not attempt to self-medicate.
The essential preventive measures to follow before traveling abroad are detailed in the information cards below.
