Kazakhstan Participates in the 79th World Health Assembly in Geneva

22 May 2026, Geneva – The delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan headed by Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova took part in the 79th World Health Assembly (WHA79) in Geneva.
During the plenary session, the Minister of Health of Kazakhstan addressed the General Debate, reaffirming Kazakhstan’s commitment to strengthening the global health architecture, advancing Primary Health Care (PHC), digital health and climate-resilient health systems.
An important milestone was the election of First Vice-Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan Timur Sultangaziyev as Chair of Committee A of the World Health Assembly, which considers key issues of the global health agenda.
On the margins of the Assembly, the Kazakh delegation met with WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Ghebreyesus. The parties discussed further strengthening cooperation on PHC, advancing the Global Coalition of Countries on PHC, the work of the WHO European Centre for Primary Health Care in Almaty, as well as regional initiatives in Central Asia.
In addition, the Kazakh delegation held a number of bilateral meetings with international partners and heads of international organizations, including WHO Regional Director for Europe Dr Hans Kluge, WIPO Assistant Director General Edward Kwakwa, and representatives of the International Organization for Migration, UNICEF and Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunisation. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in healthcare, pharmaceuticals, medical education, digitalization and public health.
Representatives of Kazakhstan also participated in a number of thematic events and side events dedicated to strengthening Primary Health Care, achieving Universal Health Coverage, improving health systems resilience and addressing antimicrobial resistance.
Special attention during the events was given to promoting Kazakhstan’s initiative – the Global Coalition of Countries on PHC, which currently unites 26 partners. On 21 May, Kazakhstan together with the organization Resolve to Save Lives co-organized a special event dedicated to strengthening Primary Health Care and resilient health systems.
Kazakhstan’s participation in WHA79 contributed to advancing national healthcare initiatives at the international level, strengthening partnerships with WHO and international partners, and expanding practical cooperation in Primary Health Care, digital health, workforce development and resilient health systems.
