The Kazakhstani delegation is participating in the 35th session of the UN Commission in Vienna

Vienna, June 1–5. The delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, consisting of representatives from the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, is taking place in the 35th session of the UN Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ). Delegates from more than 100 states are involved in this large-scale forum.
At the main plenary session, Deputy Prosecutor General Askhat Zhumagali presented institutional reforms associated with the adoption of the new Constitution in a nationwide referendum, which strengthen guarantees for protection of human and civil rights and are aimed at ensuring the principle of Law and Order.
In connection with the Head of State declaring the Year of Digitalization, the head of the delegation shared the successful experience of Kazakhstani law enforcement agencies in crime prevention using digital solutions and artificial intelligence.
At a separate event held jointly with CARICC, Kazakhstan presented a prototype of an international platform for detecting and blocking financial flows from the drug trade. Following the presentation, experts agreed on the need to work on the pilot implementation of this system across all Central Asian countries.
Kazakhstani delegates also shared the successful experience of the Targeting Center of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan during a session on tracking digital footprints of drug crimes. In addition, representatives of the prosecutor’s office actively participated in side events on combating transnational fraudulent Call Centers and preventing cybercrime against children.
Within the framework of the session, bilateral negotiations were held between the Kazakhstani delegation and the senior management of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) – G. Prichard, the Chief of Cybercrime and Technology Section, and O. Stolpe, the Regional Representative for Afghanistan, Central Asia, Iran and Pakistan. The parties substantively discussed the initiative to establish a regional Center for Countering Cybercrime in Kazakhstan, involving international experts and investments.
An important step toward expanding legal cooperation was a meeting with the secretariat of the South East Asia Justice Network (SEAJust). The parties agreed to work through the issue of Kazakhstan joining this organization as a non-regional member. This will allow Kazakhstani law enforcement officials to cooperate promptly with more than 20 Asian countries on issues of extradition and the recovery of illegally transferred assets.
During the event, the Kazakhstani delegation strengthened working contacts with colleagues from other foreign countries and international organizations on issues of combating cybercrime, human trafficking, fraud, drug trafficking, and others, and also visited the International Anti-Corruption Academy (IACA) to discuss prospects for staff training.
