Constitutional reforms in Kazakhstan were one of the key topics of the meeting between the Chairperson of the Constitutional Court, Elvira Azimova, and French political scientist Thierry de Montbrial, Founder and President of the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), as well as President of the World Policy Conference.

During the discussion, the parties addressed contemporary trends in the development of constitutional justice, issues related to the improvement of state institutions, and the further advancement of political and legal reforms.

Particular attention was given to Kazakhstan’s experience in constitutional transformation. Elvira Azimova spoke about the ongoing work on the reform of the Fundamental Law, the role of the Constitutional Reform Commission, and public perceptions of the changes taking place. According to her, the demand for justice, openness of state institutions, and strengthening of the rule of law remains one of the key public priorities.

Thierry de Montbrial expressed interest in the mechanisms for modernizing Kazakhstan’s political system. The discussion focused on the redistribution of powers among state institutions, the interaction between branches of government, the specifics of appointing political officials, as well as the activities of the National Kurultai as a platform for public dialogue.
