A 60-year-old resident of the Abai region, while on a pasture, picked wild cannabis bushes. Then he dried it and stored it at home in two polymer bags containing dried marijuana weighing about one kilogram.

            The court found him guilty and sentenced him to 100 hours of community service.

           The convict was registered with the probation service of the Zhanasemeysky district of Semey. Preventive, educational and legal explanatory work has been carried out with him, aimed at the formation of law-abiding behavior and the prevention of repeated offenses.

             During a conversation with probation officers, he said that he had been living alone for more than ten years: his wife was divorced, and his two children had not been in touch with him for a long time.

              To carry out his punishment, he was employed as a janitor in the akimat of the village where he lives. Currently, he faithfully performs the duties assigned to him, trying to correct the mistake.

For a long time, I lived as if I had nothing left to lose. Loneliness is very oppressive when there is no family or support nearby. You gradually stop thinking about the consequences of your actions, and that's exactly what happened to me. Now, looking back, I'm ashamed of what I did. I put myself in this situation. The thing that hurts me the most is that I've lost touch with the kids. Now they have their own families, they are adults, they have their own lives. I often think about them and hope that one day they will hear me and give me a chance to fix everything. It's especially hard for me to realize that I have grandchildren, but I've never seen them.… This is probably the bitterest thing in my life.

                    I'm very sorry about how things turned out. Now my main goal is to live honestly, not to break the law, and to prove, first of all to myself, that I can change," the convict shared.

        — The main task of the probation service is not only to monitor the execution of sentences, but also to provide social and psychological support to convicts. In this case, comprehensive work is carried out with the citizen aimed at his re-socialization. Employment, preventive conversations and constant support help him realize his mistakes and embark on the path of correction. We see positive changes and hope that he will draw the right conclusions," said Serikbayev Murager, senior inspector of the probation service of the Zhanasemeysky district of Semey.
