Taraz Hosts National Guard’s Strongest Kazakh Kuresi Wrestlers

The National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan held its Kazakh Kuresi Championship in Taraz, dedicated to the memory of the 17 servicemen who lost their lives while carrying out a combat mission on the Tajik-Afghan border in 1995. The tournament brought together the National Guard’s strongest wrestlers and served as a tribute to the courage and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in the service of the nation.
A total of 50 athletes from seven teams, representing the National Guard’s regional commands and military units, competed in the championship. Throughout the tournament, participants demonstrated outstanding physical preparation, determination, and competitive spirit.
The winners in their respective weight categories were:
Adilet Ilesbek (Regional Command Ontustik) – up to 60 kg;
Berdibek Umbetkhan (Military Unit 6636) – up to 66 kg;
Ulan Yeleusizov (Military Unit 6636) – up to 74 kg;
Darkhan Koibagar (Regional Command Ontustik) – up to 82 kg;
Ali Alimbi (Regional Command Ontustik) – up to 90 kg;
Nurdauren Tynyshkali (Regional Command Batys) – up to 100 kg.
In the overall team standings, Regional Command Ontustik claimed first place. Military Unit 5573 from Astana finished second, while Regional Command Batys secured third place.
The winners and medalists were awarded trophies, certificates, and valuable prizes. The championship remains one of the National Guard’s important traditions, combining the promotion of Kazakhstan’s national sport, the development of military-applied skills, and the preservation of the memory of servicemen who fulfilled their military duty to the very end.
