New York, 28 July 2026 – The United Nations Headquarters in New York hosted the quarterly open debate of the UN Security Council on the situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question, under the presidency of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The meeting brought together 60 speakers, including Mr. Ramiz Alakbarov, Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process.

Kazakhstan participated in the debate at the level of its Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Kairat Umarov, who presented the country’s position on key issues of the regional agenda.

In his statement, the Kazakh diplomat noted that the situation in the Middle East remains complex and volatile. He stressed that recent developments, including heightened tensions surrounding Iran and growing risks to maritime security, underscore the need for maximum restraint and efforts to prevent further escalation. He also highlighted the interconnected nature of the crisis in Gaza, the Palestinian question, and broader regional dynamics.

Kazakhstan reaffirmed its principled support for the two-State solution based on international law and relevant UN resolutions. It also emphasized the importance of delivering humanitarian assistance under UN coordination and in line with the priorities and needs of the Palestinian people. In this regard, Kazakhstan expressed its readiness to make use of the potential of the Islamic Organization for Food Security, headquartered in Astana, in support of humanitarian efforts in the region.

Particular attention was paid to maritime security, including the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Kazakhstan expressed solidarity with the Gulf countries and underscored the importance of joint efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions, ensuring the security of maritime navigation, and preserving regional stability.

In conclusion, Kazakhstan reaffirmed its commitment to the peaceful settlement of conflicts through political and diplomatic means, called on all parties to exercise maximum restraint and intensify mediation efforts, and reiterated its readiness to continue making a constructive contribution to peace and stability in the Middle East.
