Servicemen of the National Guard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan — Lance Corporals Ruslan Kurbanov, Yerlik Sertai, and Vadim Sharlaimov — made history as members of Kazakhstan’s men’s épée team. Competing at the World Fencing Championships in Hong Kong, the Kazakh team claimed its first-ever gold medal in the men's team épée event.

In the final, Kazakhstan defeated Ukraine 45–40, securing the country's first-ever world championship title in team épée.

The historic gold medal was won by National Guard servicemen Lance Corporals Ruslan Kurbanov, Yerlik Sertai, and Vadim Sharlaimov, together with teammate Kirill Prokhodov. For Kazakhstan, the championship marked a milestone achievement: the team reached the World Championship final for the first time and immediately captured the world title.

On their way to gold, the Kazakh team overcame a series of strong opponents. They defeated Finland 45–39 in the Round of 32, edged Uzbekistan 28–27 in a closely contested match, overcame Denmark 45–36 in the quarterfinals, beat Egypt 41–32 in the semifinals, and finally defeated Ukraine 45–40 in the championship match.

A particularly significant contribution to the historic victory was made by Lance Corporal Ruslan Kurbanov, one of the leaders of Kazakhstan’s national team and one of the country's most accomplished épée fencers. Together with his fellow National Guardsmen Yerlik Sertai and Vadim Sharlaimov, he proudly represented not only Kazakhstan but also the National Guard, demonstrating the high level of servicemen who successfully combine military service with elite-level sport.

Kazakhstan’s men’s épée team currently ranks fifth in the world, and the triumph in Hong Kong represents the greatest achievement in the history of Kazakh fencing, confirming that the country's athletes are capable of competing at—and winning on—the highest international level.
