Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic Expand Cooperation in Electoral Affairs and Law Enforcement

Prague, 24 July 2026 – During a warm and constructive meeting between the Minister of the Interior of the Czech Republic, Lubomír Metnar, and the Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kairat Abdrakhmanov, the parties discussed opportunities for further strengthening bilateral cooperation in the fields of electoral administration and law enforcement.
Given the Ministry's responsibility for the organization and administrative support of elections in the Czech Republic, particular interest was shown in Kazakhstan's forthcoming election of the members of the Kurultai under the country's new Constitution. In this context, Ambassador Abdrakhmanov provided a comprehensive overview of the implementation of President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev's «Law and Order» initiative as a cornerstone of building a Just Kazakhstan. He highlighted the ongoing institutional reforms aimed at further strengthening the rule of law, enhancing the effectiveness of public administration, increasing the transparency of state institutions, and establishing a modern system of governance that is accountable to society.
In the context of the agreements reached during the official visit of the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Andrej Babiš, to Astana in April this year, the parties noted the commencement of work on the liberalization of the visa regime for citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of Kazakhstan's partnership with the European Union.
The discussions also covered prospects for expanding cooperation between the competent authorities of the two countries in combating organized crime, illicit drug trafficking, human trafficking, irregular migration, cybercrime, and other transnational security challenges.
Particular attention was devoted to the recovery of illicitly transferred assets, further enhancement of mechanisms for mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, as well as the exchange of best practices in financial investigations, anti-corruption efforts, and combating money laundering.
The interlocutors reaffirmed their mutual interest in further developing direct contacts between the law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan and the Czech Republic, including through expert consultations, joint training activities, the exchange of professional experience and best practices, as well as enhanced cooperation within the framework of Interpol and other relevant international mechanisms.
Minister Metnar expressed keen interest in the large-scale political and institutional reforms being implemented in Kazakhstan and reaffirmed the Czech side's readiness to strengthen practical cooperation with Kazakhstan across the full range of issues falling within the competence of the ministries of the interior.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to further deepening the Kazakh-Czech partnership and advancing practical cooperation in the law enforcement sphere.
