Representatives of the public foundation "Ana uyi" met in the women's penal colony in the Abai region. During the visit, the convicted women were provided with counseling and psychological assistance, as well as the possibilities of social support after their release.

          During the meeting, representatives of the foundation held individual conversations with convicted women whose children are in orphanages, as well as with those who had previously been subjected to domestic violence. The main goal was to provide legal, psychological and social support, as well as assistance in restoring family ties, obtaining custody and preparing for return to society.

           To date, more than two hundred convicted women are serving their sentences in the institution. About ten convicts are deprived of parental rights and their children are in orphanages, more than twenty convicts have previously faced domestic violence. All of them received the necessary support: the mechanisms for restoring parental rights, the possibility of placing children under the care of close relatives were explained, and information was provided on the protection of the rights of women affected by violence and available crisis centers.

            Special attention is paid to the issues of placing children in families of relatives. Representatives of the foundation noted that they are ready to accompany the guardianship process, provide legal assistance and interact with government agencies so that children can be raised with their relatives.

I am 40 years old, and I myself am a resident of Altai city. At the court's verdict, I was sentenced to eight years in prison for the attempted murder, of which I have been in a penal colony for at least five years. Because of my mistakes, my 12-year-old daughter lost her mother's love. Now, thanks to the public fund, my daughter will have the opportunity to stay with my relatives and feel the care and warmth of loved ones. After my release, I plan to restore my relationship with my daughter, start a new life and avoid making the same mistakes," the convict shared.
Such meetings help convicted women not to lose touch with the outside world, give hope for reunification with their children, contribute to their psychological recovery and motivation for a law—abiding lifestyle after their release," said Ainur Iskakova, head of the Department of educational and socio-psychological work among convicts.

          The meeting was another step towards supporting women in difficult situations and protecting the rights of children in need of family warmth and protection.
