Geneva, 11 August 2026 – Erzhan Kazykhan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, held a meeting with Tatiana Valovaya, Director-General of the United Nations Office at Geneva.

The sides discussed key areas of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Nations, current issues on the multilateral agenda, as well as Kazakhstan’s initiatives aimed at strengthening international cooperation.

E. Kazykhan briefed his interlocutor on the large-scale political and institutional transformations underway in Kazakhstan following the adoption of the country’s new Constitution and further efforts to improve the public administration system. Particular attention was paid to the upcoming 23 August elections to the Kurultai, which will mark an important stage in the practical implementation of the new constitutional model.

The meeting also featured an exchange of views on nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation. In the context of Kazakhstan’s consistent commitment to advancing a world free of nuclear weapons, E. Kazykhan informed his counterpart about preparations for an event at the Palais des Nations marking the 20th anniversary of the Treaty on a Nuclear-Weapon-Free Zone in Central Asia.

Particular attention was devoted to the initiative of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to strengthen the global architecture of water governance, including the proposal to establish an International Water Organization under the auspices of the United Nations. The Kazakh side emphasized the important role of Geneva and the UN system organizations based there in advancing expert and diplomatic dialogue on the global water agenda.

The interlocutors also discussed ongoing processes to reform the UN system, including the “UN80” initiative. In this context, they stressed the importance of preserving and further strengthening Geneva’s role as one of the key centers of multilateral diplomacy. The parties also touched upon the issue of increasing the representation of Kazakhstani professionals within the Organization’s structures.

Following the meeting, the sides reaffirmed their interest in further strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Nations Office at Geneva and continuing substantive dialogue on key issues of the international agenda.
