The "Turan" Peoples Held Their Biennial Kurultáj in Hungary

Budapest, August 17, 2026 – The Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hungary participated in the opening ceremony of the Great Kurultáj of the Turan Peoples, organized by the "Magyar-Turan" Foundation and held on August 15 in the Steppe of Bugac.

Among the distinguished guests attending the event were Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States; Shahin Mustafayev, President of the Turkic Academy; Sultan Raev, Secretary General of TÜRKSOY; Kürşad Zorlu, Member of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye; Begis Temirbaev, Minister of Culture of the Republic of Karakalpakstan (Uzbekistan); András Bíró, President of the "Magyar-Turan" Foundation; as well as László Szabó, Mayor of Bugac, and others.

Speakers at the opening of the Kurultáj noted the significance of this grand gathering as Europe's largest cultural event. They emphasized its role as a unifying force for people who consider themselves descendants of the Hun-Turkic tribes.

In addition, the Kurultáj program featured various cultural events. Alongside traditional groups from other Turkic nations, audiences were captivated by the performances of Kazakhstan's neo-ethno duo "Arkayim" and the "Sherter" folklore ensemble. Furthermore, exhibitions and fairs featuring artisans from Kazakh, Uzbek, Turkmen, Azerbaijani, Turkish, and Uyghur communities opened at the "Eastern Bazaar" area.

Reference: The Kurultáj is held every two years in the Bugac steppe of Hungary. Since 2010, it has been one of the world's largest festivals dedicated to preserving traditions.
