Helsinki, 21 September 2026 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Finland Azamat Abdraimov held a meeting with Salla Tammi, Director of the Oodi Central Library in Helsinki. The meeting focused on prospects for developing cultural and professional cooperation between Kazakhstan and Finland.

Opened in the centre of Helsinki in 2018, Oodi is a prominent example of a modern library that combines traditional library services with cultural, educational and public spaces. Its innovative concept has gained wide international recognition.

Particular attention was given to promoting Kazakh literature and culture in Finland. The sides noted that fostering a culture of reading and building a «reading nation» is one of Kazakhstan’s key national priorities, with President of Kazakhstan K.Tokayev placing particular emphasis on this area. In this context, the sides discussed the possibility of establishing a collection of Kazakh-language books at Oodi, which would provide Finnish readers with an opportunity to discover Kazakhstan’s literary heritage and contemporary literature.

The meeting also addressed prospects for the exchange of expertise between Oodi and libraries in Kazakhstan, including in the areas of digitalisation, modern library services, and the development of libraries as open public and cultural spaces.

The sides expressed their interest in continuing the dialogue and developing concrete initiatives aimed at further strengthening cultural and humanitarian ties between Kazakhstan and Finland.
