President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev expressed gratitude to Marius Vizer for his contribution to the development and popularization of judo. According to him, this sport enjoys great interest in Kazakhstan, especially among children and youth.
– I think that your visit is extremely important in terms of giving impetus to mutually beneficial cooperation between Kazakhstan and the federation. Today, judo holds a special place in the global sports community. Judo is also very popular in our country. There are many sections and training centers where more than 160 thousand adults and children practice judo. We are very proud that our athlete Eldos Smetov won the gold medal at the recent Olympic Games in Paris. Therefore, we are very interested in developing contacts and more active cooperation with the International Judo Federation," the Head of State noted.
Marius Vizer thanked Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for his personal support in the development of judo in Kazakhstan.
– It is a great honor for me to be here. I would like to express my gratitude to you and Kazakhstan for the support you provide not only to judo, but also to the entire sports movement, which today is one of the tools of education, social integration, as well as a factor of peace. All members of our judo family are united and strive for the same goal – education and better integration into society of a decent person," said Marius Wieser.
He said that in Astana, with the support of the International Judo Federation, it is planned to open the IJF Academy, which will become one of the training centers for high-class coaches and judges in the region.
The participants of the meeting exchanged views on the prospects for long-term cooperation between Kazakhstan and the International Judo Federation, and also discussed issues of preparation for the World Judo Championship, which will be held in 2027 in our country.
