In Karaganda, alternative energy sources will be used to illuminate the territory near the Nurken Abdirov school. Solar panels will be installed to charge street lights. This became possible thanks to the successful participation of schoolchildren in the national competition of environmental projects NXplorers Zhasyl urpak baygesi.
The final competitions were held in Astana. Out of 20 teams, five of the best were selected, who received a grant in the amount of one million tenge for the implementation of the project.
The Karaganda team took the third place. It included three tenth-graders of the Nurken Abdirov OSH: Nurislam Abutalipov, Aliaskar Zhumabekov, Yerkebulan Myltykbai. The head is a geography teacher and coordinator of the school STEM project Meruert Ibraeva.
– Our school has a rich history, and we are preparing to celebrate its 50th anniversary in December. We try to keep up with the times. We don't have a STEM office yet, but we are developing the direction. Our students participated in the republican competition of environmental projects last year, but did not take the prize. And this year we won a grant," says Gulshat Bagramova, director of the Nurken Abdirov OSH. – Saving electricity is important. The project takes six months to complete. I think we can do it sooner – before the end of winter.
The NXplorers program is another step towards the development of STEAM education in Kazakhstan. The organizers of the competition are the Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Daryn" and the Corporate Fund Caravan of Knowledge with the support of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the energy company Shell Kazakhstan.
