A newborn girl underwent two complex surgeries at the Shymkent perinatal center. The baby, weighing 2,100 grams, was born in critical condition and was admitted to the intensive care unit. Doctors diagnosed her with a congenital heart defect, stage II heart failure, ulcerative necrotizing enterocolitis, and congenital intestinal obstruction.

The surgeries were performed with the participation of a pediatric surgeon and a cardiac surgeon. The girl, who was born at 34 weeks by cesarean section, also had intrauterine infection and hemolytic disease of the newborn.
The child is currently under the strict supervision of specialists from the neonatal surgery department. Her condition is assessed as serious but stable.

Neonatal surgeries have been performed at the perinatal center since 2024. During this time, more than 40 newborns with congenital defects of internal organs underwent complex surgeries.
“In 2024, 29,124 children were born in Shymkent, of which 8,973 were born in our center. This year we have strengthened our material and technical base: we purchased a high-tech device for prenatal ultrasound screening, as well as equipment for screening in a day hospital,” said the head physician of the center Gulbanu Syzdykova.
According to her, in 2024, obstetrician-gynecologists, neonatologists and resuscitators received training abroad. As a result of the measures taken, infant mortality decreased by 1.5 times, and early neonatal mortality by almost 2 times.
