“Favourable conditions must be created for each student to receive education and develop comprehensively. For this purpose, the “Comfortable School” national project has been launched,” - Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2022, the Head of State, in his Address to the People of Kazakhstan, instructed to implement the “Comfortable School” national project. Within the framework of the project, it is planned to build 217 modern schools with a capacity of 460 thousand places by the end of 2025, of which 105 schools were built in 2024.
The “Comfortable School” national project is aimed at providing children with the opportunity to receive free education that meets modern requirements, regardless of their place of residence.
The initiative not only improves the material and technical base of comfortable schools, but also creates an environment that contributes to the development of children's creative and intellectual abilities.
Comfortable schools are 15-20% larger in size than standard schools, and their technical equipment is 4 times better. The schools have robotics labs, STEM laboratories, choreography halls, coworking areas, 4 gyms, and special open areas for initial military training. Elementary and high school students study in separate blocks. The main comfort in comfortable schools is the creation of ergonomic space.
In comfortable schools, special attention is paid to inclusive education. Spacious classrooms with separate bathrooms are provided for children with special educational needs. In addition, the schools have elevators, ramps, special signs, psychologist, speech therapist and defectologist offices.
The peculiarity of a comfortable school is that in each block you can see recreation areas for students and teachers. There are upholstered furniture, books, musical instruments and board games.
Schools will also be equipped with modern video surveillance and access control systems.
One of the main objectives of the project is to provide qualified teaching staff who are familiar with new technologies and methods in the educational process.
In addition, 422 schools for 510 thousand students have been built in the country, achieving a record number. This solved the problem of 32 emergency and 71 three-shift schools, eliminating the shortage of student places in 200 schools across the country.
The construction of 89 schools with a capacity of about 100 thousand students was financed through the Education Infrastructure Support Fund.
In 2024, more than 80 thousand teachers underwent free advanced training courses.
In order to solve the problem of the shortage of student places, three-shift teaching and emergency schools, as well as to reduce the difference in the quality of educational infrastructure between cities and villages, initiatives are being actively implemented in the country to build and renovate schools.
In 2025, about 200 schools with a capacity of 300 thousand will be built.
“It is important to develop rural schools as intellectual and social centers. "It is not for nothing that it is said that there is life in a village with a school," - Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
On the instructions of the Head of State, 1,000 district and rural schools are being renovated annually.
Today, 67% (5,236 schools) of secondary education organizations are district and rural schools, of which 4,000 schools have been renovated.
Over the next three years, it is planned to renovate 1,231 schools in all regions of the country, including 820 schools located in rural areas. Renovation will allow improving the material and technical base of schools, introducing innovative educational technologies, and improving the qualifications of teachers.
These measures will also solve the problem of mass migration of the population from their native places to cities.
Additional jobs are being created in all regions of the country through the construction of new educational facilities, which will contribute to improving the social and economic situation and developing the construction industry in general. Since 2024, about 5,000 teachers have been employed in newly built schools.
Another important direction of the national project is to support Kazakhstani producers of goods and services.
All furniture for new schools will be supplied by domestic enterprises. This will contribute to strengthening the national economy and creating new jobs for Kazakhstani producers, economic stability in the country, and the development of local industry.
Modern-format schools will pave the way for all Kazakhstani children to receive quality education in an accessible, comfortable, and safe environment.
