Today, February 4, the whole world celebrates World Cancer Day. This day reminds us of the importance of cancer prevention, early diagnosis and effective treatment.
Every year, about 40 thousand new cases of cancer are registered in Kazakhstan, and more than 12 thousand people die from cancer every year.
The most common types of cancer:
• Breast cancer - 5,652 cases
• Colorectal cancer -
4.30 cases of cancer - 2,907 cases
• Cervical cancer - 1,921 cases
At the end of 2024, more than 230 thousand cancer patients were under dynamic control, which is 5.9% more than in 2023.
The introduction of cancer screenings, modern diagnostic technologies and treatment methods, as well as the early detection of diseases and their qualification, contributed to the reduction of mortality.
Thanks to the measures taken in 2024, the number of stage 0-I cancer patients allowed to diagnose 31.4% of new cases, as well as reduce deaths from cancer by 3.2%.
Diagnosis and treatment of oncological diseases in Kazakhstan are carried out free of charge within the framework of the Guaranteed Volume of Free Medical Care (GMHC). Regardless of the patient's status in the compulsory health insurance system, the state bears all costs for diagnostics, provision of medicines and treatment of oncological diseases.
The Ministry calls on citizens to regularly undergo free oncological screening in polyclinics and immediately contact medical institutions if they suspect oncological diseases.
