10 YEARS OF THE SORBONNE INSTITUTE-KAZAKHSTAN AVAI UNIVERSITY
This year, the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute of the Kazakh National Pedagogical University named after Abai turns 10 years old. On the occasion of the anniversary, the university was visited by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Kazakhstan Silvan Giogue. Rector of Abai KazNPU Bolat Tlep welcomed the guest of honor and gave him a tour of the university museum, where exhibits reflecting the rich cultural heritage of the Kazakh people, as well as the history of the university itself, are presented.
Recall that the first memorandum on the establishment of the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute was signed in 2013 between the Sorbonne University Paris-Cité and Abai KazNPU. The grand opening took place on December 6, 2014 in the presence of the heads of state of Kazakhstan and France. Since its foundation, the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute has become part of the worldwide network of Francophonie and a full member of the Agency of French-speaking Universities (AUF).
At the time of the institute's opening in 2014, two educational programs were launched, and the total number of students was 40 people. Since 2018, the leadership of Abai KazNPU has placed special emphasis on the in-depth study of the French language in all programs of the institute. Over the past years, more than 1,200 students have completed their studies, and 170 of them have successfully defended their dissertations and received diplomas from partner universities in France.
As part of the celebration of the 10th anniversary, Rector of Abai KazNPU Bolat Tlep and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of France to Kazakhstan Silvan Giogue discussed the achievements of the Sorbonne-Kazakhstan Institute.
The guest of honor met with students and teachers of the university and gave a lecture on the topic "The path of a diplomat". Following the results of the event, Silvan Gioga was awarded the title of "Honorary Professor" of Abai KazNPU.
