KAZAKHSTAN IS BECOMING A LEADER IN THE DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION OF HIGHER EDUCATION WITH THE HELP OF COURSERA
The case of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan was presented in the Coursera report "Transformation of higher education through online learning with integration into the curriculum: successful stories of campuses from around the world". This collection of best practices includes examples of 12 leading universities from America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and North Africa that have integrated Coursera courses into their curricula with the possibility of transfer. The purpose of such initiatives is to better prepare students for the labor market, increase their chances of employment, strengthen the position of universities in the rankings and solve the problem of teacher shortage.
The report highlights Kazakhstan's success in integrating online courses into university curricula. In the country, 53 Coursera courses have completely replaced 116 university disciplines, and 3.2 thousand courses have been partially included in 1.6 thousand disciplines. More than 80 thousand students have completed their studies, having received over 140 thousand certificates. The average course rating is 4.9 out of 5.
In the Asia-Pacific region, Kazakhstan stands out for its high level of student engagement and satisfaction, actively developing skills in business, digital technologies and AI, which meets the requirements of the modern economy of the country. For comparison, in the Philippines, the average course rating is also 4.9, the basic skills cover business, engineering and healthcare, 37 thousand students are registered. Business and IT skills are in demand in Malaysia, the average course rating is 4.75 with 47 thousand registrations. In India, management and technology are key skills, with over 100,000 registrations and an average rating of 4.5.
Kazakhstan is achieving high results in various fields, strengthening its leadership position in the region. This partnership with Coursera demonstrates the successful digital transformation of the higher education system and contributes to the realization of the country's strategic goal of becoming the leading educational center in the region.
