A NEW REGIONAL PROGRAM TO COMBAT TUBERCULOSIS IN CENTRAL ASIA HAS BEEN PRESENTED IN ASTANA

Today, Astana hosted the presentation of a new regional tuberculosis control program in Central Asia with the participation of Vice Minister of Health Yerzhan Nurlybayev and U.S. Ambassador to Kazakhstan Daniel Rosenblum.
A new regional five-year project, which is being launched with financial support from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), aims to reduce the burden of tuberculosis, especially drug-resistant tuberculosis, in the Central Asian region (CAR).
In his welcoming speech, the Vice Minister expressed gratitude to the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for many years of fruitful cooperation in the fight against tuberculosis.
"Thanks to the constant support from international partners and donors, new technologies for early diagnosis, effective treatment, prevention of tuberculosis and tuberculosis infection are being introduced in Kazakhstan, recommended by WHO, based on the best international practices, with a high degree of evidence, which are subsequently provided with full funding from budget funds," E.Nurlybayev said.
As a result of joining efforts in the eradication of tuberculosis, the introduction of modern standards of treatment and diagnosis in Kazakhstan over the past 20 years, certain successes have been achieved. Thus, over the past 20 years, the incidence rate of this infection has been reduced by 4.6 times, and mortality by 18.7 times.
According to Daniel Rosenblum, USAID has been cooperating with the National Tuberculosis Control Program in Kazakhstan for almost three decades and supports its common goals to reduce the burden of tuberculosis and improve the well-being of Kazakhstani families.
He noted that Kazakhstan and all Central Asian countries have made incredible progress in the fight against tuberculosis through improved diagnosis, treatment and financing.
The project presentation event was attended by government officials, representatives of the Ministries of Health of Central Asia, National Tuberculosis Control Programs (NPTs), international partners, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM), the Stop Tuberculosis Partnership, USAID country missions, bilateral projects of USAID and civil society organizations.
