RSI "Ustyurt State Nature Reserve" is a specially protected natural area with the status of a nature conservation and scientific institution. The main purpose of the Reserve is to preserve, study and restore the natural course of natural processes and phenomena within its territory, conserve and study flora and fauna, individual species and communities of plants and animals, as well as typical and unique ecosystems. The Ustyurt State Nature Reserve was established on 12 July 1984 by Resolution No. 294 of the Council of Ministers of the Kazakh SSR. The purpose of its establishment is to preserve the natural complexes of the desert zone in the southwestern part of Kazakhstan in their natural state.The Reserve carries out its activities in three main areas:- protection of the Reserve's territory and maintenance of the protected natural complexes in their natural condition;- environmental monitoring through the maintenance of the Nature Chronicle and the implementation of scientific research;- environmental education of the local population and promotion of nature conservation.The territory of the Reserve includes part of the western escarpment of the Ustyurt Plateau, a narrow strip of the plateau, and the extensive Kendirli Salt Flat (Kendirli Sor). Administratively, the Reserve is located within the Karakiya District of the Mangystau Region. The Ustyurt State Nature Reserve is situated in the southwestern part of the Ustyurt Plateau within the Aral–Caspian watershed. Its territory extends 43 km from west to east at its widest point (from 54°09′ to 54°55′ east longitude) and 95 km from north to south (from 42°34′ to 43°23′ north latitude, according to the 1942 coordinate system). The total area of the Reserve is 223,342 hectares. It comprises the southern part of the Western Escarpment of the Ustyurt Plateau (from the Mamekkazgan Well in the northwest to the Kyzylsai Gorge in the south), the adjacent narrow strip of the Ustyurt Plateau, the eastern part of the Karynzharyk–Kendirli Sor Depression, fragments of the Karynzharyk sand massif, and Mount Karamaya.The highest point of the Reserve is located on the Western Escarpment of the Ustyurt Plateau, near the Kokesem Well, at an elevation of 340 m above sea level. The lowest point is situated in the northern part of the Kendirli Salt Flat at 52 m below sea level.Due to the diversity of its landforms and soils, the Reserve is characterized by rich biological diversity. A pilot project for confectionery labeling began in Kazakhstan on June 1, 2026, and will run until June 1, 2027. This is the latest step in the country's digital product traceability policy, designed to protect the market from counterfeiting and increase supply chain transparency.Leading industry companies have already joined the project. Major reconstruction of the Natalia Sats State Academic Russian Theatre for Children and Youth in Almaty is nearing completion. Due to frequent requests from citizens regarding the procedure for moving goods across the customs border of the Eurasian Economic Union, we bring to your attention up-to-date information about goods for personal use.Goods for personal use include items that are intended for personal, family, or household needs and are not related to business activities. When determining the destination of goods, customs authorities pay attention to their nature, quantity, frequency of movement across the border, and information provided by the citizen himself.Goods for personal use, depending on the classification criteria and the method of transportation of such goods, transported by individuals through the customs territory of the Eurasian Economic Union, are regulated by the Decision of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission dated December 20, 2017 No. 107 "On certain issues related to goods for personal use", as well as in accordance with the Order of the Minister of Finance No. 250 of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated March 31, 2015 "Criteria for the classification of goods transported by Individuals across the Customs Border of the Customs Union, to goods for personal use."Thus, the above–mentioned norms established by law indicate that individuals can import duty-free goods for personal use by air transport worth no more than 10,000 euros and weighing no more than 50 kg, by other means of transport and on foot - worth no more than 500 euros and 25 kg. In case of exceeding the established norms, it is required to pay customs duties at the rate of 30% of the cost, but not less than 4 euros per kilogram of weight in terms of exceeding the cost and/or weight norms.Goods for personal use sent in international mail and delivered by the carrier costing no more than 200 euros and weighing no more than 31 kg, and in case of exceeding the established norm, payment is required in the form of a cumulative customs payment at the rate of 15% of the cost, but not less than 2 euros per kilogram of weight in excess of the cost and/or weight standards.In other words, when importing goods to Kazakhstan, it is important to comply with the established limits on value, weight and quantity, as well as to be ready to confirm that the goods are intended specifically for personal use.
