Kazakh aviators took part in the ICAO Aviation Safety Week in Oman

The ICAO Aviation Safety Week was held in Muscat (Oman), dedicated to the 50th anniversary of Annex 17 "Aviation Safety" and the 80th anniversary of the Chicago Convention of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The event was organized in partnership with the ICAO and the national authorities of the Sultanate of Oman, and brought together representatives of aviation authorities from 78 countries, more than 800 experts and industry professionals from around the world.
The Kazakh delegation, which included aviation security and cybersecurity experts from the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan, Kazaeronavigation State Enterprise, and Nursultan Nazarbayev International Airport, was headed by Deputy Director General of the Aviation Administration of Kazakhstan Darkhan Espotanov.
The purpose of the event was to discuss modern challenges in the field of aviation security, introduce the latest ICAO standards and strengthen cooperation between the organization's member States.
Conferences and seminars were held within the framework of the forum, where innovative approaches to risk management and the introduction of new technologies in aviation security were discussed. Practical trainings aimed at professional development and implementation of international standards were held, as well as round tables dedicated to cooperation between states in combating new threats in civil aviation.
Special attention was paid to cybersecurity issues, the management of unmanned aerial vehicles and measures to prevent illegal interference in the activities of civil aviation.
The participants of the event noted that the results of the discussions would be an important step in the development of global aviation security. Constant cooperation allows everyone to stay at the forefront of international standards and technologies.
The ICAO week resulted in the signing at the highest level of the Muscat Declaration on Aviation Security and Aviation Cybersecurity, a strategic document aimed at strengthening international cooperation and implementing best practices in the field of aviation security.
The Declaration is based on discussions and recommendations from experts, and was widely supported by participants, including representatives of ICAO member States, the aviation industry, and international organizations. The main provisions of the Muscat Declaration:
Strengthening global cooperation: The participants confirmed the need for an active exchange of information, technologies and best practices to combat modern threats in civil aviation.;
Implementation of ICAO Standards: Participating countries have committed to accelerate the implementation of ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs) to ensure global harmonization of security requirements;
Countering new threats: the declaration calls for the development and implementation of joint measures to prevent the risks associated with cyber threats, the use of unmanned aerial vehicles and other modern challenges;
Professional development of specialists: measures have been taken to develop training and certification programs for personnel in the field of aviation safety, as well as to enhance the international exchange of experience;
Preserving environmental sustainability: An important aspect of the declaration was the desire to integrate safety measures with initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint of civil aviation.
The Declaration has been recognized as an important step towards strengthening global aviation security, and its provisions will be considered at the next meeting of the ICAO Assembly.
On the sidelines of the forum, working meetings were held with the leadership of the ICAO Aviation Security and Facilitation Department, with representatives of the aviation authorities of the Persian Gulf countries on topical issues of aviation security and cybersecurity, taking into account existing new threats in the region.
As part of the implementation of the document adopted by ICAO, Kazakhstani experts are implementing the main provisions of the declaration into national legislation, which will strengthen measures to counter modern threats and introduce new security technologies. These steps will enhance the reputation and effectiveness of the national aviation security in the future.
