Today, the Senate approved the Law on Education and Protection of the Rights of the Child. The new draft law, initiated by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, provides for the introduction of social assistance to children from vulnerable families in private schools.
The bill proposes five novels, one of which covers children from low-income families enrolled in private schools. It provides for standards aimed at providing the necessary school supplies in an amount not lower than the minimum subsistence level.
"Previously, assistance was provided only to students of public schools, and now children studying in private schools will receive this type of assistance. This is an important step towards ensuring equal educational opportunities for all children, regardless of the type of school they attend," said Edil Ospan, Vice Minister of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
This year, more than 510 thousand children from socially vulnerable families received financial support from the state to purchase clothes, school supplies and stationery. Earlier, the Ministry of Education took measures to improve the mechanism of assistance, including transferring funds to parents' card accounts. To receive help, a parent must first submit an application to the educational organization at the child's place of study.
