In the Karaganda region, 178 people received state grants to start their own businesses this year. All of them were previously unemployed and belong to socially vulnerable categories. Most of them are mothers with many children, people with disabilities or raising a disabled child. They have been able to radically change their lives: they earn money on their own and create jobs.
Gulkash Oshanova devoted many years to healthcare, worked as a surgical operating nurse. But after suffering from an illness, she became disabled and had to leave her job. She has been unemployed for more than ten years. The husband also has a disability and does not work.
And now Gulkash Oshanova has gone into business to promote the national sport.
Together with her son, she opened an archery Center in Karaganda.
– My son is a former military man, now he teaches NVP at school. Zhasulan suggested that there is such a program, then helped to draw up a business plan. I decided to give it a try. I learned the basics of entrepreneurship at the Bastau Business courses. She defended her business plan and received a grant of about one and a half million tenge. I had enough money to buy all the necessary equipment and rent a gym. We have been working since August, classes are held by appointment.
I run the business, and Jasulan teaches sadaqah to children and adults. This national sport develops a person's self–control, the ability to focus, and the desire not to give up," the aspiring entrepreneur told her story.
The mother of many children, Torgyn Baymaganbetova, having received a grant, opened an atelier for sewing clothes in the national style. In her youth, she studied to be an accountant, but did not work in her specialty. While on maternity leave, she started sewing for her children. I remembered the skill that was passed down from my grandmother in childhood. Gradually, orders began to arrive from others, who worked at home. The state grant allowed us to rent a room for a mini-studio and purchase equipment.
The entrepreneur accepted three more employees into the team. According to her, the customer base is good – not only in Karaganda, but also in the capital and other cities of Kazakhstan. Vests with an embroidered national pattern for schoolchildren, as well as accessories, are popular.
– Grants for starting their own business are given to socially vulnerable groups of the population. The amount is up to 400 MCI, for today it is 1,476,800 tenge. Grants are issued in all cities and districts of the region based on decisions of regional commissions reviewing applicants' applications. The support is free of charge, but for a certain period of time, the project implementation and the targeted use of funds are being monitored," explained Nurzhan Syzdykov, head of the Labor Mobility Center for the Karaganda region. – 178 grants have been awarded this year. More are planned for next year.
This year's business projects are different, everyone is trying to find their niche. For example, in Sarani, grant funds were used to open an oxygen pressure chamber. Several rural entrepreneurs have started producing hydroponic animal feed. A project for baking biohlebone from sprouted wheat has been supported in the Shet district. A grant has been provided in Bukhar-Zhyrau district to open a smokehouse for quail meat.
