The Southern district boiler house in Almaty was built in 1972. Since then, only major and routine repairs of the equipment have been carried out. So, in 2003 and 2015, two of the four hot water boilers were replaced.
Last year, the mayor of the city, Yerbolat Dosayev, during an inspection of the southern boiler house, which at that time was in a worn-out condition, instructed to modernize it. Thus, for the first time, the current project provides for the replacement and reconstruction of all four boilers, as well as existing auxiliary equipment.
According to the design decisions, the contractor replaced three boilers in 1972, 1982 and 2003, and modernization works were carried out on the fourth hot water boiler. At this stage, pumping units, automation have been installed, gas and auxiliary equipment have been installed, and commissioning has been completed. As a result, the increase in boiler capacity amounted to 55 Gcal/h. After the complete completion of the reconstruction, the total capacity of the boiler house will be 190 Gcal/h.
The reconstruction is scheduled to be completed in December this year.
The head of the city noted that the renovation of the municipal infrastructure in Almaty is one of the priorities.
"We have significantly increased the volume of investments in the modernization of the thermal infrastructure, which allows us to ensure stable heat supply in the future. Currently, CHP-1 and CHP-2 consistently supply heat, but we strive to minimize the need for laying new backbone networks. Starting in 2025, we intend to develop local boiler houses that will effectively cover the needs of neighborhoods and neighborhoods. This is more efficient and will significantly reduce maintenance costs, since the repair of distribution networks is much more economical than replacing large-diameter main pipes. The work carried out this year is preparation for the next heating season of 2025-2026," Yerbolat Dosayev said.
For example, in 2023, a local boiler house was built in the Nauryzbay district, and construction is also planned in the Turksib district.
In addition, the Mayor of Almaty was informed about the modernization of worn-out heating networks in the Bostandyk district, which were put into operation from 39 to 48 years ago, with a standard service life of 25 years. The work has been fully completed on four sites, which are powered by the southern boiler house, with a total length of about 5 km. With the measures taken, residents of 328 apartment buildings, 30 private houses, 11 kindergartens, 4 schools, 4 health facilities and 103 other facilities are provided with high-quality heat supply.
Recall that Almaty is actively modernizing engineering networks. This year, 20 km of networks have been reconstructed. Reconstruction of 4 and repair of 81 boiler houses of ATKE LLP has been completed. This made it possible to reduce network wear from 57.9% to 56.1%. The heating season in 2024 was started on October 7, and 100% readiness was ensured. 140% of coal and 100% of fuel oil have been accumulated for the current heating season. In total, 404 educational facilities, 128 healthcare facilities and 8,863 residential buildings are covered.
