The international Olympiad in STEM disciplines has started in the capital's school No. 103, the official website of the Mayor's Office of Astana reports.
The intellectual competition is organized in order to promote innovations in education.
More than 200 schoolchildren from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Russia are taking part in it. Participants compete for the title of the best in several areas: engineering, robot battle, programming and 3D modeling.
1,600 people took part in the selection for the International Olympiad, of which more than 200 participants in 74 teams took part.
"I have been participating in this Olympiad since last year and I can say that this is a very serious level of intellectual tournaments. We worked very hard during the preparation for the tournament and hope to win," said Bokhirbek Ibrokhimov, a participant from Tashkent.
According to the organizers, the main purpose of the event is to increase interest in the exact and engineering sciences, develop the creative and research potential of schoolchildren, as well as popularize STEM disciplines such as engineering, programming, 3D modeling and robotics.
"This is an impressive gathering of future leaders in science and technology. I am sure that each of them is not here by chance. This is more than just a competition, it is a unique opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge and gain practical skills. Participation in such events is an impetus to the development of technical education among the younger generation of our countries," said Didar Suleymanov, head of the Moscow Department of Digitalization and Public Services.
In addition to comfortable conditions, the organizers of the Olympiad have prepared valuable prizes for the winners.
"The organizers have given us all the opportunities to work on our robots. The materials are of high quality, there is everything you need and even more, which I am very glad about," said Bekzod Pardabayev, a participant from Uzbekistan.
The Olympiad is held with the support of the Department of Digitalization and Public Services of the Akimat of Astana, Astana Innovations JSC, RNPC Daryn, the Department of Education of the capital and the STEM Academia research and production company.
