The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has added separate items to the draft of the new Water Code to protect water bodies from pollution, clogging and depletion.
Thus, it is prohibited to discharge municipal, industrial and other solid and insoluble waste, as well as pollutants into water bodies. The discharged wastewater must be pre-treated. At the same time, it is prohibited to discharge purified wastewater into facilities used for therapeutic and preventive purposes.
To prevent the depletion of water bodies, measures such as the establishment of water use limits, the introduction and application of new water management technologies, water protection measures and others are envisaged.
"The draft of the new Water Code significantly expands measures for the protection of water bodies and improves the regulation of water use. The concept of "ecological runoff" is being introduced – the minimum allowable water level for maintaining ecosystems of water bodies, which protects them from drying out and other negative consequences," said Serikzhan Beketayev, Director of the Department of Water Policy of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.
