On the weekend of November 23, a large-scale preventive action "Ortsiz omir - kaipsiz bolashak" was held in the Alatau district of Almaty to ensure fire safety in private residential buildings. The event was held jointly with the Department of Emergency Situations of the city of Almaty and the Regional Communications Service. The action was attended by representatives of the media, volunteers and employees of the gas service.
During the event, the specialists of the Emergency Department informed the residents of about 2,297 houses. Carbon monoxide detection sensors have been installed in 16 houses of needy families, which are heated with coal and firewood.
The head of the Emergency Department of Almaty, Nurlan Atygaev, reported on the measures taken to improve security in private homes. Special attention is paid to socially vulnerable categories of the population, including large families, pensioners and people with limited mobility.
"Since 2018, about 1,500 carbon monoxide sensors have been installed in Almaty for low-income families free of charge. However, some residents turn them off, which carries serious risks. We continue our explanatory work and urge everyone to comply with fire safety rules," N. Atygaev said.
Akimats of the districts have identified 901 families belonging to socially vulnerable segments of the population for targeted assistance. All 100% of these families are covered by prevention, of which 102 families' houses are heated with solid fuel.
According to the akimat of the Alatau district, the sponsors also purchased 200 sensors for the SUSN. Work on the installation of sensors continues.
As part of the actions "For Safety — Together", "Helping Hand" and "Clean Chimney", targeted fire prevention assistance was provided in 36 houses. Chimneys were cleaned in the houses, cracks were repaired, walls were whitewashed in places where smoke channels passed and adjacent territories were cleaned. Carbon monoxide sensors are also installed in 41 houses.
In addition, events have been organized to provide firewood for heating to families in need.
For a wide audience, volunteers, the gas service, employees of the district akimat and public figures are involved in the work. Residents were additionally informed with the help of 8 special emergency vehicles, which notified of the need to comply with fire safety rules during the heating season.
Also, in one of the major shopping malls of the megalopolis, there was a public reception for emergency situations, where everyone could ask their questions in the field of fire safety.
