The campaign "16 days without violence" has started in the capital

In order to raise public awareness of measures to prevent violence, the campaign "16 days of active action against gender-based violence" has been launched in the capital, the official website of the Mayor's Office of Astana reports.
The main goal of the campaign is to prevent and combat domestic violence and human trafficking. The event will be attended by representatives of interested government agencies, non-governmental organizations, the public, crisis centers and the media. This was announced at a briefing at the site of the City Communications Service by Deputy Chairman of the Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the Mayor's Office of Astana, Nazgul Makzhan.
"The effective work of the Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and demographic policy directly depends on its composition. The commission consists of 32 people: deputies of the city maslikhat, heads and deputies of city administrations, heads of the non-governmental sector, representatives of various public and private foundations, directors of women's enterprises, representatives of crisis centers, employees of the Local Police Service, journalists, etc. Such a wide range of participants in the composition will contribute to the full coverage of issues of protecting the rights and opportunities of women, strengthening family and demographic policy," Nazgul Makzhan said.
Three working groups have been established as part of the commission. That is, work is underway in the direction of women's leadership, women in difficult situations, and family values. The Commission, which supports large families and women in difficult situations, held more than 80 events in 2024.
According to Nazgul Seitkozhakyzy, a total of 52.4% of the capital's population are women. As of June 1, 2024, the population of Astana was 1,464,415 people, of whom 768,181 were women.
Recall that the annual international campaign "16 days of active action against gender-based violence" traditionally begins on November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, and ends on December 10, the International Human Rights Day.
