About 1.6 billion cubic meters of water are planned to be sent to the Aral Sea by April 2025. This was announced by the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov. He held a reception for citizens, where issues of preserving the Aral Sea were raised.
At the same time, it should be noted that from October 2023 to April 2024, about 1.3 billion cubic meters of water were sent to the Aral Sea, and since the beginning of the year, a total of 2 billion cubic meters.
The topic of the Northern Aral Sea was also on the agenda of the 87th meeting of the Interstate Coordinating Water Management Commission of Central Asia (ICWC), held earlier this month in Turkmenistan.
"Since the beginning of the year, about 2 billion cubic meters of water have been sent to the Northern Aral Sea. Today, the total volume of water in the sea has reached 22 billion cubic meters. In addition to water diplomacy and close work with our colleagues from Central Asian countries, the introduction of water-saving technologies plays an important role in filling the sea. Thanks to them, this year the agrarians of the Kyzylorda region saved 200 million cubic meters of water, which were also sent to the Northern Aral Sea. The issue is very important, we deal with it in various ways and keep it under control," said Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Nurzhan Nurzhigitov.
Recall that following negotiations with neighboring countries in Turkmenistan, the minister agreed that 11 billion cubic meters of water will be sent to the Shardara reservoir by April 1. This will allow to accumulate the necessary amount of water for the 2025 irrigation season in the southern part of the country.
