Akim of Almaty Yerbolat Dosayev held a meeting with a delegation of the Export-Import Bank of China (Eximbank) headed by Vice President Yang Dongning.
The parties discussed the prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation aimed at developing infrastructure and green projects, expanding the financial market, deepening trade and economic ties and tourism cooperation.
Special attention is paid to the financing of key projects in the field of urban transport infrastructure (construction of new metro lines), economic diversification with the transition to new industrial projects of higher redistribution, the implementation of green projects (construction of a solid waste recycling plant) and the development of tourism. During the meeting, it was noted that 2024 was declared the Year of Tourism of Kazakhstan in China, the next 2025 – the Year of Tourism of China in Kazakhstan. In the first half of this year, more than 40 thousand tourists from China visited Almaty, which is 68% more than in the same period last year.
In addition, the role of the city in attracting foreign investment was discussed. In the first half of this year, $3.8 billion of foreign direct investment was attracted to Almaty. The trade turnover of Almaty with China for 9 months of 2024 amounted to 5.6 billion US dollars (or 28.9% of the trade turnover of Kazakhstan with China).
Ms. Yang Dongning expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and stressed Eximbank's readiness to support joint initiatives aimed at sustainable development of the megalopolis.
In conclusion, the parties confirmed their intentions to continue fruitful cooperation within the framework of joint initiatives, including the development of industrialization, transport infrastructure, financial market and tourism potential of Almaty.
