A press conference was held today following the results of the main UN climate summit – COP29 held in the capital of Azerbaijan.
The speakers were the Head of the Department of Climate Policy of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sh.Tastemirova, representatives of the NAO "International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects", Kazakhmys Corporation LLP, international experts.
It should be recalled that the UN Climate Conference ended in Baku, which was attended by representatives of about 200 countries. This event has become an important tool for making collective decisions and finding compromises aimed at combating climate change.
During the panel sessions, representatives of Kazakhstan not only identified problematic issues, but also presented a number of initiatives that have been actively developed in our country. In particular, an effective solution for the agricultural sector was presented – the methodology of Ecosystem Regenerative Agriculture (ERA), which restores soil fertility. The project, which will be one of the first in the field of carbon removal in Kazakhstan, implemented within the framework of the updated national contribution of Kazakhstan (NDC 3.0), was also presented to the international community.
During the event, it was announced that Kazakhstan has become the BTR world champion. Our country, among only nine of the 197 UNFCCC member States, has submitted a biennial Transparency report (BTR1). Similar large-scale work has been completed by Japan, Spain, Turkey, Singapore and the Netherlands. This fact confirms Kazakhstan's leadership in the Central Asian region in achieving the climate goals set out in the Paris Agreement.
As one of the important outcomes of the conference, we can note the positive decision to hold the next regional climate summit in 2026 in Kazakhstan, which will become a platform for developing joint strategies and solutions to combat climate change.
Our country strives to create conditions for an open and constructive dialogue, as well as to promote the exchange of best practices and innovations.
