On February 21, the Almaty Tech Cup - 2025 international engineering and robotics championship dedicated to the city's Akim Cup will begin in Almaty, Gulnur Karimgazhi, director of the Almaty Daryny Center, announced at a press conference of the regional communications service.
This is the largest tournament in Central Asia, with more than 3,000 participants, including 20 foreign teams from Kazakhstan, India, Turkey, Mongolia, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
"This prestigious competition is a very important event for young engineers, programmers and inventors. Participants can not only compete, but also take part in various interactive events, engineering quests, and receive prizes and souvenirs," she said.
According to her, the championship has been held since 2014. During this time, the number of participating teams has increased from 20 to 400. Kazakhstani students have been showing high results in the international arena. For example, at the championship held in the USA, the Almaty team entered the top 10 out of 80 teams. In addition, young engineers from Kazakhstan won world gold medals in Geneva in 2022, Singapore in 2023, and Athens in 2024.
The 2025 championship will include robotics, engineering, and drone competitions, including the Aspan Cyber ​​Race, Aspan Drone Competition, Aspan Whoop Race, and Aspan Drone Race. Participants will demonstrate their skills in the First Lego League (4-16 years old) and First Tech Challenge (16-18 years old).
The main prize is the Almaty Akim Cup, which is awarded to the best team that scored the most points in all competitions. Winners can receive not only the cup, but also educational grants from the best universities in the country.
