According to the results of 2024, 540 thousand tons of petrochemical products were produced in Kazakhstan, and in 2025 it is planned to increase this figure to 550 thousand tons.
In October 2024, the Ministry of Energy developed and approved the Roadmap for the development of the petrochemical industry for 2024-2030. The roadmap plans to implement major projects, build infrastructure, and develop measures to stimulate the industry.
In December 2024, the first investment agreement for methanol production in the oil, gas, and chemical industry was approved.
As reported by the Minister of Energy Almasadam Satkaliyev, one of the main projects will be the construction of a polyethylene production plant in the Atyrau region: "The plan is to begin construction of a polyethylene production plant with a capacity of 1,250 thousand tons per year in the Atyrau region."
In addition, the issues of financing the gas separation complex project in the industry and introducing mandatory labeling of motor oils to protect the market from counterfeit products are being worked out. A specialized Law "On the Oil, Gas, and Chemical Industry" is also being developed.
