The meeting of the staff of Aktobe region, chaired by the akim of Aktobe region Askhat Shakharov, considered the issue of providing the region's residents with high-quality Internet within the framework of the national project "Affordable Internet".
The head of the regional digital technologies department, Asset Otarbayev, reported on the main work aimed at improving the quality of communication and mobile Internet in urban and rural areas, as well as on republican roads.
According to him, in 2024, base stations will be modernized in the region, and the coverage area of the mobile network will be significantly expanded. This year, 96 base stations will be installed and upgraded with the 4G standard, and the coverage area of the 5G network will be expanded to 82 base stations. This will further improve the quality and stability of Internet communication for urban residents.
As for rural areas, mobile Internet covers 261 of the 311 rural settlements of the region. This year, four of the planned 25 villages have been connected to the Internet, namely Taldysay (Alga district), Baitak (Kobda district), Duken and Mamyr (Irgiz district). Work is ongoing in the remaining villages.
Satellite technologies are used to provide broadband Internet services in 29 villages with a population of less than 100 people. Currently, 7 villages have Wi-Fi connected via satellite channels. Thus, by the end of the year, the level of mobile Internet coverage of rural residents will reach 98.8%.
Work is also underway to provide mobile communications on roads of republican significance. Design documents are being developed for the construction of base stations at 17 points on these routes. Today, the documents for 10 points have passed the examination and received a positive conclusion. The remaining 7 projects are undergoing state examination. It is expected that the results will be ready for 5 points in March, and for 2 points in Irgiz in April. Funds from the republican budget will be allocated for the implementation of these projects in April.
The regional akim noted the importance of ensuring access to the Internet and mobile communications for all residents of the region. In this regard, he instructed the Department of Digital Technologies, together with the district akims, to fully implement all projects planned within the framework of the national project "Affordable Internet".
"The main goal is to improve the quality of communication in both urban and rural areas, as well as along highways connecting settlements. The "Affordable Internet" project will not only improve the quality of communication, but also provide new opportunities for the development of the economy, education, healthcare and other sectors. This, in turn, will directly affect the quality of life of the region's residents," the regional akim said.
