Almaty police made a statement
15.04.2025 18:04:54 187Road safety is an important factor for the comfortable and safe life of city residents and the stay of guests in the southern capital.
Almaty has more than 1 million cars per day, including cars from outside the city.
Accidents in the city were affected by the use of alternative types of vehicles - mopeds and electric scooters - by residents, as in many cities around the world.
"I am sure that every day you are witnessing that their number is increasing day by day in the city. Moped drivers often violate traffic rules, which leads to an increase in traffic accidents. For example, moped drivers often make dangerous maneuvers, such as "sudden braking", which endangers pedestrians and motorists. The lack of discipline and culture among many moped and scooter owners aggravates the problem, because they do not follow basic safety requirements, which leads to accidents and injuries on the roads," said Serik Shumaev, Head of the Department of Local Police Services of the Almaty PD.
Last year, 1 thousand 084 traffic accidents involving mopeds took place in Almaty, as a result of which 1 thousand 098 people were injured and another 17 people died. 140 accidents involving scooters took place, as a result of which 3 people died and 146 people were injured. In addition, more than 44 thousand moped drivers were brought to administrative responsibility, including more than 1 thousand 700 mopeds were placed in specialized fine parking.
Within the framework of strengthening the principle of "Law and Order" in society and ensuring safety on the roads in the country's major cities, we are carrying out explanatory work for moped owners everywhere about the need to register vehicles and observe road safety rules.
"Last year, changes were made to the Law "On Traffic". The main goal is to regulate the use of mopeds. Now moped drivers are full participants in road traffic and are subject to all legal requirements. In this regard, I would like to remind moped drivers once again that they need to register their mopeds and obtain a driver's license of category "A1". After April 5 of the current year, moped drivers who have not registered their vehicles with the authorized body and drive a moped without a driver's license of category "A1" will be held administratively liable, Serik Shumaev said.
