18.08.2026 23:32:21 253Tirana, August 18, 2026 – The Embassy of Kazakhstan in Albania hosted an information briefing for representatives of the Albanian media and expert community on the new Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the forthcoming elections to the Kurultai.
The event was attended by representatives of Albania’s Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, local media and expert circles, as well as Embassy staff.
Opening the event, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Albania Iskander Aisariyev welcomed the participants and thanked them for their interest in the ongoing political reforms in Kazakhstan and the further development of Kazakh-Albanian cooperation.
During the briefing, an Embassy counsellor presented the key provisions of Kazakhstan’s new Constitution, which was adopted in a nationwide referendum held on 15 March 2026 and entered into force on 1 July 2026.
Particular attention was paid to the transition from a bicameral Parliament to a unicameral Kurultai, the country’s highest representative body exercising legislative power. The participants were provided with information on the procedure for its formation, its principal powers, the role of political parties, and the first elections of deputies to the Kurultai, scheduled for 23 August 2026.
Dr Redion Luli, an Albanian expert in international law, addressed the event as a guest speaker and presented, in Albanian, his assessment of the political and institutional significance of the ongoing reforms.
According to Dr Luli, Kazakhstan’s experience in modernising state institutions is of particular interest to the Albanian audience, given the country’s size and strategic location in Eurasia.
The briefing also provided participants with information on Kazakhstan’s socio-economic potential and its role in international affairs, its contribution to developing the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor), and its initiatives to advance nuclear disarmament and interfaith dialogue.
In the discussion that followed, the participants expressed particular interest in the practical implementation of the new constitutional model, the work of the Kurultai, the electoral process, and the prospects for further developing relations between Kazakhstan and Albania.
The briefing helped broaden direct dialogue between the Embassy and representatives of the Albanian media and expert community.
