Budapest, 17 November 2025 - Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Hungary, Abzal Saparbekuly, held a meeting with members of the Friendship Group of the National Assembly of Hungary, where the sides discussed the state and future prospects of bilateral political relations, including Kazakh-Hungarian interparliamentary cooperation.

The meeting was chaired by Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and Head of the Interparliamentary Group, Sándor Fazekas. The discussion was also attended by Deputy Head of the Group Sándor F. Kovács and MPs Attila Barca, Zsolt Kovács, Kristóf Szatmáry, and Attila Tilki.

In his remarks, the Ambassador provided a brief overview of the current dynamics of Kazakh-Hungarian cooperation and the agreements achieved during this year’s high-level visits, underlining the importance of the strategic partnership. He noted that President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s state visit to Hungary on 20 November 2024 and his participation in the Informal Summit of the Organization of Turkic States held in Budapest on 20 May elevated the partnership to a new level and created important momentum for expanding trade and economic cooperation.

Ambassador Saparbekuly also emphasized that the visits of Speaker of the National Assembly László Kövér (24 September) and President of Hungary Tamás Sulyok (2-3 October) to Astana served as a continuation of this constructive dialogue. He stressed that Kazakhstan attaches great importance to strengthening mutual understanding and practical cooperation with official Budapest within the framework of the Strategic Partnership in the coming decade.

The Ambassador highlighted key areas of cooperation within the Strategic Partnership, including the expansion of trade, economic and investment ties, the development of transport and logistics cooperation, the advancement of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (“Middle Corridor”), the importance of launching the direct Budapest-Shymkent-Budapest flight to boost tourism potential, and the need to promote cultural and humanitarian engagement by introducing Kazakh and Hungarian language courses in relevant educational institutions of the two countries.

Head of the Friendship Group Sándor Fazekas underlined that Kazakh-Hungarian relations have deep historical roots and noted not only the fraternal ties between the two peoples but also the historical presence and role of the Kun–Kipchak community in Hungary.

He recalled that Hungary was among the first countries to recognize Kazakhstan’s independence, emphasizing the importance attached to the 10th anniversary of the Declaration on Strategic Partnership. Fazekas assured that the Hungarian Parliament, including the Friendship Group, will remain actively involved in implementing the agreements reached during President Tokayev’s state visit to Hungary in November 2024.

He expressed support for the reforms and initiatives of Kazakhstan’s Head of State and confirmed Hungary’s readiness to share its extensive parliamentary experience within the framework of upcoming parliamentary reforms in Kazakhstan (Hungarian parliamentarism has changed its institutional form 13 times in its history).
