02.02.2026 18:08:16 201
The epidemiological situation regarding the Nipah virus in Asian countries remains under the control of international health services. According to international public health organizations, sporadic local cases of Nipah virus infection are periodically reported in several countries of South and Southeast Asia. The infection has previously been detected in Malaysia, Bangladesh, India, the Philippines, and other countries in the region.
In January 2026, isolated cases of the disease were recorded in India. Local health authorities are carrying out anti-epidemic measures, and the situation remains under control.
The Nipah virus is classified as a zoonotic infection. It can be transmitted to humans from animals (primarily fruit bats), through contaminated food and beverages, or through close contact with an infected person. The incubation period averages from 4 to 14 days.
Early symptoms may resemble those of a cold or flu, including fever, headache, muscle pain, weakness, sore throat, and vomiting. In some cases, neurological symptoms may occur, such as drowsiness, dizziness, and impaired consciousness.
Currently, there is no specific vaccine or approved treatment for the Nipah virus. Prevention is based on maintaining proper hygiene and limiting contact with potential sources of infection.
Recommendations for tourists
When planning trips to South and Southeast Asian countries, it is recommended to:
– maintain personal hygiene;
– consume only thoroughly processed and well-cooked food;
– avoid contact with wild animals;
– refrain from consuming fruits and juices of unknown origin;
– seek medical assistance promptly if feeling unwell.
Regional situation
No cases of the disease have been registered in the Republic of Kazakhstan or in the Akmola Region. The region’s tourism infrastructure continues to operate as usual. The Tourism Department will continue monitoring the international epidemiological situation and will promptly inform the public if necessary.
