Kazakhstan Commences Chairmanship in Asia Pacific Regional Group at UNESCO

Throughout 2026, Permanent Delegation of Kazakhstan to UNESCO is holding the chairmanship of the Asia Pacific (ASPAC) regional group in UNESCO.
The first meeting of the group comprising 47 Member States took place on 13 February 2026.
At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Askar Abdrakhmanov expressed the group members’ sincere appreciation to the very successful ASPAC chairmanship of China last year, as Chinese Ambassador Yang Xinyu symbolically handed him the chairmanship nameplate.
The Kazakh diplomat then thanked the members of their group for the trust and support, and presented proposals on the group’s work plan for the current year. The delegations that participated in room or online congratulated Kazakhstan in the chairmanship and approved the presented ideas. The Group elected Thailand as Vice-President of the ASPAC Group and Republic of Korea as its Secretary / Treasurer. In conclusion, the group exchanged views on some other organizational aspects of its work ahead.
The Delegation of Kazakhstan is firmly committed to continuing good cooperation within the ASPAC Group at UNESCO during its chairmanship and beyond!
