In an interview with the American publication The National Interest, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized that amid global instability, predictability, responsibility, and respect for state sovereignty are becoming key values in world politics. He stressed that Kazakhstan reaffirms its readiness to act as a reliable and honest partner for the international community.
At the same time, he noted that the current international environment demonstrates a growing demand for pragmatism and realism. This shift, he said, was especially evident at the Munich Security Conference, where several influential Western leaders effectively confirmed an obvious truth: national interests cannot be ignored, sovereignty must not be treated as an inconvenience, and stability cannot be built on ideological dogma.
According to the President, the world is not rejecting cooperation but is gradually abandoning illusions. The emerging doctrine, he explained, is based on the rule of law, responsibility, predictability of commitments, and respect for cultural and national identity, adding that such an approach reflects not isolationism but political maturity. He stressed that the shortcomings of the previous model are most clearly visible in conflict resolution. For too long, he said, the international community relied on endless negotiations, declarations, and conferences that resulted only in symbolic statements. The outcome, he noted, has been agreements without implementation, diplomacy without results, and peace processes without peace.
Tokayev stated that under current conditions the world can no longer afford such an approach. That is why, he said, the creation of a Council of Peace, which has received full support from the United Nations, represents an important step forward. This initiative, he explained, is not another discussion platform but a practical mechanism aimed at tangible results, particularly in the Gaza Strip and the Middle East. The concept, he added, envisions achieving peace through sustainable economic development—via infrastructure, investment, job creation, and long-term prospects that make renewed conflict senseless. Owing to its novelty and ambition, he concluded, the initiative deserves international attention and respect.
In this regard, the Head of State underscored that in today’s world trust is determined not by rhetoric but by consistency of action and responsibility. It is precisely those countries that fulfill their commitments, act transparently, and pursue practical cooperation that build durable foundations of trust. For its part, Kazakhstan remains committed to a course of reliable and honest partnership, prioritizing stability, compliance with international obligations, and the achievement of concrete results.
