Constitutional Reforms and Foreign Policy Initiatives of Kazakhstan Discussed in Madrid

Madrid, February 19, 2026 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Spain, Danat Mussayev, delivered a lecture at the Institute of Economics and International Relations of the Autonomous University of Madrid at a conference attended by members of the academic community and university students.
During his address, Ambassador presented the key priorities of Kazakhstan’s multi-vector foreign policy, elaborating on the role of middle powers in the context of current geopolitical challenges. He reaffirmed Kazakhstan’s commitment to multilateralism and strengthening the role of international organizations, and highlighted the country’s foreign policy initiatives, including the Regional Ecological Summit and the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions.
Addressing regional issues, Kazakh diplomat noted the growing importance of Central Asia in global processes and Astana’s course toward expanding cooperation with the European Union. He emphasized Kazakhstan’s role as a key transport and logistics hub in Eurasia, particularly within the framework of the Middle Corridor, which contributes to strengthening connectivity between Europe and Asia.
Special attention was also paid to digital transformation, as D. Mussayev underscored Kazakhstan’s ambition to position itself as a regional center for innovation and artificial intelligence. He briefed the audience on measures aimed at introducing digital solutions in the social sector and informed them about the upcoming international multi-sport tournament “Games of the Future” to be held in Astana.
In his remarks, Ambassador also informed the audience about the systemic political reforms underway and presented the main provisions of the draft new Constitution to be put to a Republican referendum on the umpcoming March 15. It was noted that the proposed reform aims at a comprehensive modernization of the governance model and strengthening the principles of the rule of law.
The subsequent Q&A session featured a substantive exchange of views and demonstrated the strong interest of the Spanish audience in the initiatives presented and prospects for further cooperation.
