February 24, 2026, Brussels – Together with the Ambassadors of Central Asian countries and Mongolia, Head of the Mission of Kazakhstan to the European Union, Mr. Roman Vassilenko participated in a meeting with Member of the European Parliament Mr. Pascal Arimont.
Mr. Arimont is the only representative of Belgium’s German-speaking Community in the European Parliament. Alongside the French and Flemish communities, it is one of the three official linguistic communities of the country.
During the meeting, the parties discussed strengthening interparliamentary cooperation between Central Asia and the European Union, as well as cooperation between the represented countries and Belgium, in particular with the German-speaking Community, which is known for its high-tech development and high standard of living. Ambassador Vassilenko informed the Member of the European Parliament about the upcoming referendum on the draft of Kazakhstan’s new Constitution, drawing parallels with reforms in Belgium, where a decision had previously been made to abolish the Senate of Parliament.
Special attention was paid to the favorable cultural and socio-economic conditions created for the active engagement of ethnic Germans in Kazakhstan. The diplomat spoke about the fate of their ancestors who had been deported to the country in the past, and emphasized that today the German community lives in harmony, peace, and prosperity as part of Kazakhstan’s multiethnic society.
The meeting took place on the eve of Kazakhstan’s Day of Gratitude, which gave the discussion particular symbolic significance.
