Astana and Ljubljana are strengthening consular and legal cooperation

Ljubljana, February 24, 2026 – As part of the further strengthening of bilateral cooperation, Ambassador Altay Abibullayev held a meeting with the Director General of the Directorate of International Law and Protection of Interests of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Slovenia, Mr. Marko Rakovec.
During the talks, the parties discussed a wide range of issues of consular cooperation and contractual and legal cooperation. Special attention was paid to preparations for the first bilateral consular consultations, which are intended to become a regular coordination mechanism for the protection of the rights and legitimate interests of citizens of the two countries.
The parties also discussed the prospects for concluding agreements on readmission, extradition, and legal assistance in civil and criminal matters. The Slovenian side expressed its readiness to provide draft model agreements for further consideration by the Kazakh side.
It was emphasized that Slovenia is a member of the Schengen area and participates in the formation of a unified visa policy of the European Union, which gives additional importance to the bilateral dialogue in the consular sphere.
In addition, the issues of expanding the network of Honorary Consuls of the Republic of Kazakhstan in such cities as Rogaška Slatina, Novo-Mesto and Koper were considered.
Following the meeting, the parties confirmed their mutual interest in further strengthening consular and legal cooperation and developing the legal framework of bilateral relations.
