Kazakhstan and Ethiopia Aim to Boost Bilateral Trade

Addis Ababa, March 4, 2026 - The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Н.E. Mr. Zhalgas Adilbayev, held a meeting with the Minister of Trade and Regional Integration of Ethiopia, Kassahun Gofe (PhD). The parties discussed strategic priorities for economic cooperation, plans to increase bilateral trade volume and the creation of favorable conditions for the business communities of both countries.
During the conversation, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan provided a detailed briefing on the large-scale state reforms currently underway in Kazakhstan. He informed the Minister about the upcoming nationwide referendum on constitutional amendments, scheduled for March 15, 2026.
Continuing the dialogue, the sides exchanged views on collaboration within international trade and economic organizations. The interlocutors also touched upon the prospects for cooperation within the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Both parties acknowledged that current trade level between Kazakhstan and Ethiopia do not reflect the true potential of their respective economies. In this regard, an agreement was reached to continue joint efforts toward the expansion of trade and economic cooperation.
The meeting also addressed the importance of exchanging visits between official and business delegations to foster bilateral relations, specifically in B2B and G2G formats. Discussions included the possibility of signing bilateral agreements on trade and economic cooperation and air services, as well as the prospects for institutionalizing cooperation through the Joint Business Council.
In conclusion, the parties agreed to exchange lists of export goods and to conduct a series of online consultations between relevant ministries to identify priority areas for mutually beneficial partnership.
