Nauryz Celebrated in Budapest
31.03.2026 15:25:25 246Budapest, March 20, 2026 – The Nauryz holiday was widely celebrated in the Hungarian capital with the support of the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Hungary, the Kazakhstan–Hungary “Bars” Foundation, and the Kazakh student association “Quryltai.” The event brought together citizens of Kazakhstan and Kazakh students residing in Hungary.
This year, the celebration was held within the framework of the “Nauryznama” concept, giving the event a distinctive meaning and a modern character.
During the official ceremony, the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Hungary, Abzal Saparbekuly, delivered welcoming remarks, noting that Nauryz is a vivid reflection of the centuries-old traditions and national identity of the Kazakh people. He also emphasized the importance of such events in promoting cultural heritage and strengthening unity. In addition, the Ambassador highlighted the significance of the recent referendum held in Kazakhstan, as a result of which the country’s Constitution was adopted, underscoring that this step is aimed at further strengthening the nation’s democratic development.
The President of the Kazakhstan–Hungary “Bars” Foundation, András Gal, congratulated the guests on the occasion and spoke about the foundation’s initiatives aimed at developing cultural ties between the two countries.
As part of the celebration, a rich cultural program was presented. Guests were introduced to the history and traditions of Nauryz, took part in national games and competitions, and enjoyed a concert program.
The evening’s atmosphere was enriched by performances of Kazakh students, who performed traditional kyui on the dombra, folk songs, and national dances. The concert program featured: Boglárka Fehér – Kazakh songs and original compositions (performed on Kazakh folk instruments and the Hungarian dańgyra); Rakhat Zhanakhmet – student of Széchenyi István University (dombra); Aibar Nurtayuly – PhD student at the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (dombra); Tamás Palcsó – singer and composer (vocals); Kenessova – second-year student (Business and IT) with a Kazakh dance; Hungarian folk dance performed by Sára Pojka and Donát Képíró, students of MATE University and dancers of the “Forduló” folk ensemble; a dance duet by Zhansaya Utepbergenova (Óbuda University), Nuraiym Kanaeva (Budapest Business University), and Aidana Zhanabay (Corvinus University of Budapest), presenting a Kazakh dance. The program also included a theatrical performance of “Kyz Kuu” and elements of the traditional “Kyz Uzatu” ceremony.
By tradition, a national dastarkhan was laid for the guests. Participants were offered traditional dishes of Kazakh and Hungarian cuisine, including Nauryz kozhe, pilaf, Hungarian goulash, baursaks, and other traditional delicacies.
In total, more than 200 guests attended the event. The celebration of Nauryz in Budapest became a vivid example of strengthening cultural ties, preserving national traditions, and uniting the Kazakh diaspora abroad.
