The «Kazakhstan – The Voice of the Great Steppe» Concert Held in Budapest, Hungary

Budapest, June 16, 2026 – A concert titled «Kazakhstan – The Voice of the Great Steppe» was held in the Hungarian capital to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the legendary «Aksak Kulan» kuy. The cultural evening introduced Hungarian audiences to the rich heritage of Kazakh music and dance.

The concert was held at the historic Pesti Vigadó concert hall, built in the 19th century and holding a special place in Hungary's cultural life. Situated on the banks of the Danube, this architectural gem is considered one of the most prestigious venues for international cultural events.

The program featured performances by the «Akzharma» Folk Ensemble and the «Zhorga» Dance Ensemble of the Mangystau Regional Philharmonic named after Murat Oskinbayev. Through vibrant examples of Kazakh musical and choreographic art, the ensembles guided the audience on a spiritual journey through the centuries-old cultural traditions of the Great Steppe.

Among the distinguished guests were Hungarian Parliament Vice Speaker Dr. Hallerné Dr. Nagy Anikó, Members of Parliament F. Kovács Sándor and Molnárné Dr. Lézsák Anna, former Vice Speaker Dr. Oláh Lajos, as well as representatives of the diplomatic corps, Hungarian business and academic circles, cultural figures, members of the Kazakh diaspora, and Kazakh students studying in Hungary.

In his welcoming remarks, Abzal Saparbekuly, Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Hungary, emphasized the special role of culture in strengthening mutual understanding and friendship between nations. He noted that the concert made an important contribution to glorifying Kazakhstan’s rich spiritual heritage and further developing cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Kazakhstan and Hungary.

During the concert, works by Nurgisa Tlendiyev, Karshyga Akhmedyarov, Eskendir Khasangaliev, Murat Oskinbayev, and Kurmangazy Sagyrbayuly were performed with accompaniment on traditional Kazakh musical instruments.

The audience particularly warmly received the ensemble’s performance of Johannes Brahms’ “Hungarian Dance”, a well-known composition dedicated to Hungarian musical traditions.

The event was aimed at strengthening cultural ties between the two countries and promoting Kazakhstan’s national musical art to an international audience. The concert was met with great enthusiasm and provided an excellent opportunity to showcase the rich musical heritage and national arts of the Kazakh people to the Hungarian public.

The event also contributed to further enhancing cultural and humanitarian cooperation between Kazakhstan and Hungary and deepening the friendly relations between the two nations.

Reference: The Mangystau Regional Philharmonic named after Murat Oskinbayev is one of the leading concert organizations in the region. In 2025, the Philharmonic celebrated its 50th anniversary. It includes professional artistic ensembles dedicated to glorifying the musical and choreographic heritage of the Mangystau region and Kazakhstan as a whole. The «Akzharma» Folk Instruments Ensemble and the «Zhorga» Dance Ensemble not only introduce audiences to traditional Kazakh culture, national music, and choreography, but also make a significant contribution to preserving and promoting the country’s cultural heritage.
