In the Abai region, employees of the maximum security institution of the penal correction system held a teleconference with high school students from one of the secondary schools in the city of Semey in order to promote the ideology of ”Law and Order” and prevent crime among young people.

         The main purpose of the event was the prevention of offenses among teenagers, the formation of respect for the law, as well as a visual demonstration of the consequences of illegal actions. During the meeting, the convict, who is serving a sentence for the illegal sale of narcotic drugs, told the students about his life in an online format. He openly shared that at first he perceived what was happening as temporary difficulties, but dependence and the desire for ”easy money” led to devastating consequences — loss of freedom, severance of family ties and social isolation.

         The students were particularly impressed by the personal story of a 35-year-old convict sentenced to 22 years in prison for the illegal sale of narcotic drugs.

          — Carrying out such events is an important part of preventive work. Live communication with convicts makes a much stronger impression on young people than a dry theory. Such meetings contribute to the formation of legal awareness, help teenagers realize the consequences of illegal acts and make a choice in favor of law—abiding behavior," said Ermek Rakhimov, head of the department of educational and socio-psychological work among convicts.

           The teleconference was an effective preventive measure and made it possible to convey to young people the importance of observing the law and being responsible for their actions.
