Athens, 11 August 2026 – Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Greece Timur Sultangozhin held a meeting with Eftichios Vassilakis, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Greek airline AEGEAN Airlines.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects for the development of Kazakhstan-Greece cooperation in civil aviation, as well as opportunities to expand direct air connectivity between the two countries.

The Ambassador briefed his counterpart on the development of Kazakhstan’s aviation industry, the modernization of airport infrastructure, the expansion of domestic and international flight networks, and the growing presence of foreign air carriers in the Kazakh market.

In this context, the Kazakh side expressed its readiness to develop cooperation with Greek airlines. The parties highlighted the prospects for expanding air connectivity between Kazakhstan and Greece in light of the signing of the Agreement between the Republic of Kazakhstan and the European Union on Certain Aspects of Air Services, as well as the ongoing work to further facilitate visa procedures. These measures are expected to contribute to increased passenger traffic and create favourable conditions for expanding tourism and business contacts.

Particular attention was paid to the development of tourism ties between Kazakhstan and Greece. The growing interest of foreign tourists in Kazakhstan and Central Asia as a whole was noted. In this regard, the parties emphasized that expanded air connectivity could provide an additional impetus to mutual tourist flows, business contacts, and humanitarian and people-to-people ties.

Eftichios Vassilakis briefed the Ambassador on the airline’s work to explore and develop new international routes, including destinations in Asian countries. In this context, he expressed AEGEAN Airlines’ interest in exploring opportunities to develop air connectivity with Kazakhstan as a potentially promising destination.

Following the meeting, the parties agreed to maintain working contacts and continue exchanging information on the development of air connectivity between Kazakhstan and Greece.
